Online Figure Drawing AidsIf you're like me, you might have gotten lazy when it comes to practicing figure drawing. Sometimes it's difficult to find decent photos to reference, to do gestures or otherwise, so it's easy to do a couple drawings for practice then throw in the towel.
Well, there are a number of sites out there that I've come across over the years that help with that sort of thing. They pull stock images and such from different sources and give you a randomizer and timer and other features, or show anatomical structures that you can manipulate. Below I'll list some of the ones I've come across that might help you. Some of them have the same images, so you can probably just pick a couple favorites.
Pose Maniacs
An oldie but goodie. I've used this site for ages and it's only gotten better. On it you'll find 3D models of poses that you can rotate around, and they all show the musculature. You can browse the poses, or use the random viewer, or the timed v

Ahhhhhhg seriously, if you haven't already discovered this comic through other means, social media, friends, etc, read the chapter-and-a-half they have produced so far. This is the one webcomic, aside from The Meek that I check back on regularly (eagerly) for a new page.
I'm actually not going to explain the story out loud here, best just read to see what's going on.
The writing, pacing, and humor are all just at my preferred level, (helpful to you, I know,) and the art is very interesting. The art style is a little messy and over/underproduced in all the right places to make it oddly refreshing to look at. Not to mention the dynamically drawn, almost animated-feeling main character that you just can help but feel sorry for.

How to use DPI properly.This is one of the biggest problems I see other people running into, and I've had to explain it a countless number of times. The bummer is that it's really quite simple, but if you don't know how it works it's easy to get mixed up.
The following is more or less what I'm going to tell you, but in a less comprehensive fashion. So if these 2 main points make enough sense to you, then you can decide if you need more information and explanation:

You only need to set DPI when working with actual dimensions like inches or centimeters, etc. So if you're working directly in pixels already, it's useless.

Therefore, the only time you really need to set the DPI is when you need to ensure good print quality, and know your real world dimensions but not the exact pixels. The program will set the pixels for you based off the other information.
First and foremost, you REALLY don't need to work in real world dimensions such as inches or centimeters unless

The worst thing about working retail.I don't rant very often about real life, but I can't let this one slide. Sorry if this is a useless journal entry for most of you, I just gotta freaking vent.
So the worst thing? Customers who don't understand anything.
So I work in a retail store. We sell equipment. Some of it is very expensive. Sometimes when we sell something to a customer, it gets damaged during its shipping after manufacture. This gets people really mad, and yell at us in the store / over the phone about how they spent all this money and get something that (usually) has a cosmetic blemish or in worse cases a broken piece.
To these customers, it's terrible that you got the luck of the draw, but it's actually just that -- bad luck. We didn't intentionally sell you the product in that damaged state. We rely on the manufacturers of these products and their quality control departments to make sure these products don't wind up in our stock rooms -- because we sure as hell don't open up every one of these huge boxes and

Gaming Industry Jobs - Rant - & Your opinion?This is something I've been thinking about for a while. Are gaming industry jobs where all the good money and opportunities can be found for artists these days? The gaming industry is growing massive, even as large as (or larger than) other industries such as Music. So working for a game developer studio would probably be the best thing you could do right now, right?
But is it really? I've never been hired by a game studio before, (well I've never been hired under any studio for anything ever, anyway,) but I've always gotten the impression that if I had, my time there would be extremely short -at best-. It comes down to my perception of the game industry today, where artists are the first expendable employees if a project tanks (which happens often especially today,) and you're going to be hard-pressed to find another job elsewhere in the industry for some time to come. Me and ~YanYu have been in a documentary mood lately. What's some good ones we should get?
Just watched King Corn and it set a great starting point for a binge. It presented its information well without wreaking at all of a forced biased agenda.
If you say An Inconvenient Truth, you will be thrown from the court. (I've also seen the anti-thesis to that movie -- "the great global warming swindle." I like seeing both sides of an argument.)

InfluenceI was reading a journal of :iconviccolatte:, a wonderful artist from DA, in wich she explains how sad she feels due to the fact that she gets her work compared to another great artist from here. She says she feels like a fraud, and that's so sad, because we all do, we all have gone trough the same.

Drawing gives me the opportunity to truly see. As an artist, I do not casually observe my surroundings nor take them for granted, but rather view the world as a creator and architect of my own artistic vision. I found this the other day. It's 12 minutes long and contains no story, that's not its point of it. If you have ANY interest in photography OR architecture you will probably be intrigued by this film to stick with it 'till the end. This film is nothing short of a celebration of the two, showing architecture through the lens of a camera -- shown as art. Full screen this video, make sure HD is on, and just sit back and get absorbed into it (and it's immensely soothing soundtrack.) Actively think about what you're looking at! I've watched this all the way through about 5 times now.
This film is a good representation on how I like to view architecture. When I walk around, especially downtown Boston, I like looking at details of buildings this way. It's the little things that get me. H

It has been awhile. Right now the flooding crisis is resolved. Luckily, my home didn't suffer from it. Thank you for all of your concern in previous journal. I'm appreciated.
